A Step Nearer Felixstowe Port Strike
Port workers at Felixstowe have now voted to strike in August, which will likely bring the UK’s largest container port to a standstill.
1,800 members of the Unite Union took part in the ballot, with 92% in favour of industrial action.
Workers are disputing the 5% increase pay offer from the port, after receiving 1.4% last year. The union argues that with inflation over 11%, the latest offer is effectively a pay cut.
There are no set days for strike action to commence next month, with Unite reportedly allowing a ‘short window of opportunity’ for the port to review their position.
Needless to say, the impact of strike action at Felixstowe will have a detrimental impact on UK supply chains.
Atlantic Pacific will continue to watch the situation closely and update on any developments.
