All Aboard The World’s Only Seagoing Paddle Steamer
Atlantic Pacific Group Director – Christine Nichols – was delighted to to be invited aboard the world’s only seagoing paddle steamer ‘PS Waverley‘ last week, to visit the bridge and meet the captain, officers and pilot.
The Waverley was built in Glasgow in 1946, to replace a vessel of the same name that was sunk in 1940 while helping to evacuate troops from Dunkirk. Since 2003, the steamer has been listed in the National Historic Fleet as ‘a vessel of pre-eminent national importance’.
She has been restored to her original appearance and now operates passenger excursions around the British coast. She operates on the Thames for two weeks every year and during the voyage Christine joined, the Waverley was steaming from Southend Pier to Tower Pier and passed through Tower Bridge (as seen in the video below).
