Asia Carriers Blank Over 50 Sailings

Carrier alliances have cancelled an incredible 53 Asia-Europe sailings in the first few weeks of 2023 to mitigate the drop in demand from Asia.

According to a report in The Loadstar, these blanked sailings represents over a quarter of their scheduled capacity for the period.

Demand from China, in particular, has been low in the build up to this year’s early Chinese New Year celebrations, which are due to start this weekend.

As things stand, there is little indication that demand will be picking up again following Chinese New Year. Therefore, it seems likely that some form of blank sailings will continue when factories reopen after their customary two week break –  meaning advertised schedules may be disrupted.

Atlantic Pacific will be monitoring the situation very closely. Should you require further information on the above, then please do not hesitate to contact a member of the team.
