Port Congestion Impacting Southern China

Congestion at Yantian port is continuing to impact supply chains and has recently spread to neighbouring Nansha port in Guangzhou, following the discovery of coronavirus cases.

As we previously advised, Yantian was closed to export containers for a brief period in the past fortnight. Even now, the port is reportedly operating at around 15% of it’s throughput capacity.

Nansha is believed to be heading towards a similar position following local restrictions being imposed on business and social activity. Many carriers have chosen to avoid calls at Yantian, which is adding pressure to other congested ports in Southern China, such as Shekou.

Following on from the space and equipment shortage issues, importing from Southern China by ocean freight is extremely challenging right now. We therefore suggest speaking to a member of our team if you have upcoming shipments from the region.

As always, we will continue to work extremely hard to mitigate the impact on your business and are available to discuss alternative solutions within your supply chain.
