Deadly Cargo Plane Crash Shuts Down Louisville Airport

A UPS cargo plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Louisville’s Muhammad Ali International Airport yesterday, killing at least seven people and igniting fires across a nearby industrial area.

The MD-11F wide-bodied aircraft erupted into a fireball moments after lifting off at around 5:15 p.m. local time (10:15 p.m. GMT). Witnesses reported seeing the plane veer sharply before crashing beyond the runway, setting multiple buildings ablaze as thick black smoke billowed into the sky.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene but faced intense flames and widespread debris. Authorities have confirmed at least seven fatalities so far, including all three crew members aboard the aircraft. Officials have warned that the death toll may rise as search and recovery efforts continue.

The crash has forced the temporary closure of Muhammad Ali International Airport, a critical transportation hub that also houses UPS Worldport, the company’s largest global air cargo facility. Operations have been suspended as investigators and cleanup teams work to clear debris scattered across two runways.

This marks the second major cargo aircraft incident in just two weeks. On October 20th, an Emirates freighter skidded off a runway and plunged into the sea at Hong Kong International Airport.

Atlantic Pacific are monitoring developments, while our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by this tragic incident.
