Embracing International Women’s Day

Today is International Women’s Day – a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, while promoting the need for gender equality.

Atlantic Pacific are one of the front runners, in the logistics industry, when it comes to embracing career opportunities for women.

In what is often a male dominated industry, half of both our directors and employees are women, while women also account for forty percent of our senior management team.

This year is the 111th International Women’s Day, which is  celebrated annually on March 8.

In 1909, the first ‘National’ Women’s Day was formed in the United States. This followed 15,000 women marching through New York City demanding shorter working hours, better pay and the right to vote, in the previous year.

The first ‘International’ Women’s Day was agreed soon after in Copenhagen and then celebrated from 1911 onwards. However, the day was not officially recognised by the United Nations until 1975.

Today, we would like to give thanks to the many women within our company, who have continually contributed significantly to our ongoing success.

Happy International Women’s Day !
