Explosion At Ningbo Disrupts Port Operations

An explosion on a container ship docked in Ningbo Zhoushan Port has led to operations being suspended and the potential for ongoing disruption.

The Yang Ming Mobility was docked at a container terminal when a container exploded yesterday afternoon, sending a vast plume of flames and smoke into the air.

Emergency response teams, including fire tugboats, were mobilised to get the situation under control and fortunately, no casualties have been reported. The explosion is currently believed to have been caused by a fire breaking out in a storage area containing chemicals and flammable liquids.

Operations at Terminal 3 and surrounding areas have been stopped and delays through the port are to be expected. Berthing schedules for upcoming vessels are due to be adjusted, which may result in long term delays and even congestion.

The team at Atlantic Pacific are monitoring the situation closely. For further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
