French Strike Disruption This Weekend
France is once more braced for travel and transport disruption, as they enter the public holiday weekend with more action planned.
Unions have called strike days on Friday 28th April and Monday 1st May, as the dispute over President Macron’s pension reforms continues to boil. Monday is a public holiday for Labour Day, a traditional day for industrial actions, and demonstrations are expected nationwide.
Thousands of transport workers, including air traffic controllers, are expected to join the action on Friday or Monday, or both, in an attempt to create a wave of disruption around the country.
The bitter dispute has been ongoing all year and to some extent importers, exporters and logistics operators have learned to live and work around it. However, there could be small delays to shipments moving through France during the next few days.
