Houthi Rebels Sink Cargo Ship In Red Sea
A bulk cargo ship has sunk in the Red Sea, a few days after being targeted by Houthi rebels, with one crew member reportedly being killed during the attack.
The Greek owned vessel MV Tutor is understood to have been enroute from Russia to Egypt when it was struck just south-west of the Yemeni port of Hudaydah by an Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV), a bomb-carrying Houthi drone boat, earlier this month,
The ship was hit on the stern and slowly started to take on water after the attack, resulting in severe flooding and damage to the engine room. A crew member from the Philippines has been missing in the Red Sea since the incident and is now presumed dead, according to a US national security spokesperson.
The MV Tutor is now understood to be the second ship that has been sunk by Houthis since the attacks on commercial shipping started, following the sinking of the UK owned Rubymar on 2nd March.
There appears to be little chance of containerships returning to the Red Sea route any time soon, as Houthis maintain their attacks on cargo shipping regardless of whether the targeted vessels have any connection to the Israel-Hamas war.
