Important Customs Changes For CDS

The UK government have been making changes to the customs process, with the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) due to replace the current CHIEF platform as the system for submitting import and export declarations.

It is important for importers to understand that after Friday 30th September 2022,  import declarations cannot be made using the current system. The same will apply for Exports after March 2023.

For us as the customs brokers, there is much preparation taking place between now and September to comply with the new requirements.

There will be new features and practices for importers when CDS is fully phased in, which we will explain in further detail as we get nearer the deadline.

However, importers should start to look at getting prepared for CDS from now, and here are two things you could, and probably should, be working on.

  • Importers MUST register for CDS  – Start HERE
  • Importers with Deferment facilities MUST set up a new direct debit for their deferment accounts to work with CDS – Start HERE

We will keep you advised of the key stages and developments as we approach September’s deadline.

In the meantime, should you require further information, then please do not hesitate to contact a member of our team.
