More Disruption In The Driver Shortage Crisis
In our news article last week we advised how the driver shortage crisis has led to an increase in container transport costs, either directly or through Driver Retention Surcharges, and these increases have been steadily rolling out during the past few days.
Container transport has been further impacted by the increasing number of people that have been advised to self isolate by either the government app or alternative means.
Reportedly, over 500,000 people per week are now being ‘pinged’ to self isolate, following the rise in coronavirus cases. This has undoubtedly contributed further to transport and driver issues more recently.
You may recall that there is already an estimated 100,000+ shortfall in drivers within the UK. This has not been helped by the introduction of a lengthened LGV test process and test backlogs of over six months.
As things stand, it is becoming increasingly challenging to arrange container transport in a timely manner, which can lead to rent and demurrage charges being incurred.
As ever, Atlantic Pacific continue to work diligently to mitigate supply chain disruption during these extremely difficult times. Should you require further information on the above, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
