P&O Suspends European Ferry Services

2pm Update: P&O Ferries has fired 800 seafaring staff with immediate effect, but some crew are defying orders and refusing to leave their ships in protest.

Workers are understood to have been told the news on zoom. The ferry firm said the “tough decision” was made to secure the future of the business.

Delays on European transport are expected during the next few days.

Original Post:

P&O have today suspended their ferry services, with a major company announcement coming later today.

At least 17 services between the UK and Europe have stopped running, with major European road freight disruption expected.

According to the BBC, the company is not going into liquidation, and ‘rumours’ are circulating that this ‘could’ involve replacing all UK staff with overseas workers.
