Ship Attacks Lead To Rerouting Of Vessels
A number of cargo ships have come under attack in Middle East shipping lanes recently, which has led to some vessels being rerouted around Africa and the Cape of Good Hope.
Last week, two ships with Israeli ownership were attacked due to the conflict in Israel and Gaza.
The container vessel ‘CMA CGM Symi’ was widely reported to have been attacked by a drone and sustained some minor damage, while the car carrier ‘Galaxy Leader’ is understood to have been boarded and seized by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea and diverted to Yemen.
We also understand that further ships, without links to Israel, have subsequently been attacked by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in the region.
The 2M Alliance seem to be one of the first to react to the developing situation, with both Maersk and MSC confirming several vessels that will be rerouting around the Cape Of Good Hope during their current voyage. This diversion adds approximately 10-12 days to transit times.
Rerouted Vessels Announced:
Maersk Camden
Maersk Campton
MSC Ingy
MSC Diana
MSC Mirjam
A Maersk advisory, which also named some vessels that are temporarily being replaced, did not state whether these particular ships have links to Israel.
There is likely to be more diversions announced in the coming days. The Atlantic Pacific team are monitoring the situation and will directly notify any customers impacted.
