Typhoon Ragasa Causes Disruption to South China Logistics
Following the impact of Super Typhoon Ragasa across Guangdong province and the Pearl River Delta, logistics delays are expected to extend beyond China’s Golden Week holiday in some cases.
Earlier this week, port operations in Hong Kong and several key terminals across Southern China were suspended as the typhoon made landfall, halting container movements and disrupting regional supply chains. With hurricane-force winds reaching 125 mph and torrential rain, Ragasa was the strongest tropical cyclone to strike the region this year.
While some factories and terminals have begun resuming operations today, recovery is expected to be gradual. The timing of the storm has created particular challenges, coinciding with preparations for China’s Golden Week shutdown beginning October 1st.
Many last-minute orders intended for shipment ahead of the holiday will have been delayed, meaning some cargo will now remain at origin until after Golden Week concludes.
These setbacks will likely ripple through global freight schedules, compounding congestion across ports and transport networks already under seasonal strain.
Atlantic Pacific continues to closely monitor developments and will provide clients with updates on any delays as more specific information becomes available. In the meantime, customers concerned about urgent shipments should not hesitate to contact us.
