Ukraine – Immediate Impact On Logistics

This morning’s news of conflict in Ukraine has had an immediate impact on logistics, with the expectation of more to come in the coming days and possibly weeks.

Fuel prices have already hit a new high and we are receiving notices of increases in fuel charges from trucking companies with immediate effect.

Ukrainian and West Russian air space has been closed and flights are having to divert around the region. This may result in air freight delays and/or extra fuel costs in the near future.

Rail freight to and from Asia may also be impacted as trains need to travel through the region en-route to or from European hubs.

Many shipping lines have temporarily cancelled all port calls in Ukraine until further notice, and a Russian blockade is currently occupying the entrance to the Sea of Asov.

Our thoughts are currently with our partners C5C in Ukraine who have suspended operations and are focusing on the safety of Mariupol office team members, who are located in the Donetsk Region.

Needless to say, we are monitoring the situation closely.
